This privacy policy explains how AEC HARDWARE LIMITED, trading as Mitre 10 Ferrymead Landscape Supplies Christchurch, collects, uses, stores and shares personal information.

We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its information privacy principles.

The Privacy Act covers how organisations collect, store, use, disclose and retain personal information and gives people rights to access and correct information about themselves.

• vehicle and driver information needed for trailer hire

Payment card details are normally processed securely by our payment provider. We may not receive or store the complete card number.

• send marketing communications where you have agreed or where otherwise permitted

• enforce our legal rights and comply with legal obligations

We will only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for a lawful purpose connected with our services.

4. If you do not provide information

You do not have to provide personal information.

However, we may be unable to process an order, arrange delivery, provide trailer hire or respond fully to a request if the necessary information is not supplied.

We may share relevant personal information with:

• Shopify and ecommerce service providers
• payment processors
• delivery drivers and logistics providers
• Mitre 10 Ferrymead team members
• related businesses where required to fulfil your order
• technology, website hosting and analytics providers
• email and customer communication providers
• fraud prevention and security providers
• professional advisers, insurers or debt recovery providers
• regulators, law enforcement or other parties where required or permitted by law

We only share information needed for the relevant purpose.

6. Information processed overseas

Some technology providers may process or store information outside New Zealand.

Where personal information is disclosed overseas, we will take reasonable steps to ensure the disclosure complies with the Privacy Act, including the overseas-disclosure requirements in privacy principle 12.

Shopify’s own privacy documentation and the store’s installed applications should be reviewed before this section is finalised so the countries and providers can be described accurately.

7. Cookies and analytics

We may use cookies and similar technology to:

• keep the website working
• remember cart and account preferences
• understand how visitors use the site
• measure marketing performance
• improve content and customer journeys
• reduce fraud and improve security

We may send promotional email or other marketing where you have consented or where it is otherwise permitted by law.

You can unsubscribe using the link in a marketing message or contact us directly.

Transactional messages about an order, delivery, pickup or service are not marketing messages and may still be sent where needed to fulfil your request.

No internet or storage system is completely secure. Contact us promptly if you believe your personal information or account may have been compromised.

10. Retention

We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose it was collected, or as required by tax, accounting, legal, warranty or dispute-resolution obligations.

We then securely delete, anonymise or dispose of it where reasonably practicable.

Privacy principle 9 limits how long organisations should retain personal information.

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it.

We may need to verify your identity before responding. In limited circumstances, the Privacy Act may allow or require us to withhold some information.

12. Privacy breaches

Where a privacy breach has caused or is likely to cause serious harm, we will take the steps required by the Privacy Act, which may include notifying the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and affected individuals.

13. Children’s information

Our products and services are intended to be purchased by adults.

We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information directly from children for online purchasing or trailer hire.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our systems, services or legal obligations change.
